EL CENTRO, Calif. - The Florida Southern College wate rski team competed in the 2025 NCWSA Syndicate Collegiate Nationals with an impressive showing, finishing in third place overall.
The Moccasins trailed only the University of Louisiana–Lafayette and University of Louisiana–Monroe, setting the stage for an exciting weekend of competition.
Overall
Aaliyah Yoong Hanifah and
Perrine Sonier led the way finishing second and third for the women with Yoong Hanifah earning a 1,675 followed by Sonier with a 1,615. For the men,
George Malinovski finished sixth totaling 1,420 overall.
The women's slalom squad placed second overall with standout efforts from multiple Mocs finishing inside the top ten.
Perrine Sonier tied for fourth place with four buoys at 35 off (score 94.00).
Sierra Klinchuch tied for sixth with three buoys at 35 off (score 93.00).
Aaliyah Yoong Hanifah tied for eighth with 2.5 buoys at 35 off (score 92.50).
Solie Stenger also contributed valuable points, tying for 14th with 0.5 buoys at 35 off (score 90.50).
Chloe Ellingsen rounded out the group, tying for 54th (score 59.00).
On the men's side, the Mocs secured key points in the trick event led by
Mateo Barrientos who placed 11th overall with a score of 3,450 points.
George Malinovski followed closely in 12th, tallying 3,440 points.
Trenton Oberndorf finished 17th with 2,330 points, while
Evan Robbins and
Vicente Tizza earned additional scores of 1,760 and 1,330, respectively.
On day two, The Mocs continued their strong performance ending the day still in third with 7,745 points adding the men's slalom, with multiple athletes scoring inside the top 20.
Santiago Barrientos led Florida Southern, placing 13th with four buoys at 38 off (score 106.00).
George Malinovski followed in 14th with three buoys at 38 off (score 105.00).
Ty Meeker and
Chase Sparks tied for 18th, each running 1.5 buoys at 38 off (score 103.50).
Charlie Cross added points for the Mocs with a 27th-place tie, running 0.5 buoys at 35 off (score 96.50).
The men's slalom group's consistent skiing helped Florida Southern secure key points that kept them solidly in third place overall (3,910) heading into day two.
Day two also featured the women's jump event, where the Mocs continued to shine.
Aaliyah Yoong Hanifah led the way with a second-place finish, leaping 43.5 meters (143 feet) for 590 points.
Perrine Sonier placed sixth at 38.4 meters (126 feet) for 550 points.
Solie Stenger tied for 13th with a 34.3-meter (113 feet) jump for 475 points.
Sierra Klinchuch followed in 18th at 29.6 meters (97 feet) for 430 points, and
Avery Crain rounded out the event for the Mocs in 33rd with 19.0 meters (62 feet) for 275 points.
The women's jump team totaled 2,045 points, placing third overall in the event and keeping Florida Southern locked in a top-three position entering the final day of Nationals.
In women's trick,
Aaliyah Yoong Hanifah led the Mocs with an excellent performance, earning second place overall with a total of 3,130 points and 560.0 event points. Teammate
Perrine Sonier followed closely behind in third, recording 2,220 points and 500.0 event points. Both performances placed among the top scorers in Division I.
Rounding out the women's trick efforts,
Sierra Klinchuch,
Solie Stenger, and
Chloe Ellingsen each contributed valuable team points to keep FSC among the top overall.
Florida Southern's combined efforts through out Nationals featured several standout overall performances:
