Three Moccasins Earn Weekly Honors From Sunshine State Conference

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference has announced three from Florida Southern College earning Player of the Week selections.

Florida Southern had a sweep of the cross country weekly awards with Andrew Nyland and Kara Simard named SSC Runners of the Week, and a second Defensive Player of the Week award for Carly Brodsky from women's soccer.

Brodsky had a productive week for the Mocs in conference play, including a 0-0 shutout versus Tampa to record her ninth shutout of 2025, breaking a program record of shutouts in a single season. Brodsky followed with a 1-1 tie against (RV) Florida Tech, with a career-high 11 saves in that game. Over the two SSC games, Brodsky made 16 saves, allowing just one goal in her 42 shots faced. The Parkland, Florida made five saves in the shutout against the Spartans for the new program record, with another 11 saves against the Panthers on the road in Melbourne. Brodsky ranks top 10 in GAA (6th), save percentage (4th), and total shutouts (5th) among NCAA Division II keepers.

Nyland was SSC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week as the Florida Southern men's cross country team hosted the Ed Holloway Classic Friday night and took second overall, only falling to Florida Gulf Coast University. Sophomore Andrew Nyland led the way for FSC as he placed third overall on the 8K course as he completed the distance in 25:40.6. He was the top finishing NCAA Division II student-athlete as runners from Florida Gulf Coast and Florida International took first and second, respectively. The Mocs defeated Division I programs FIU, Florida Atlantic, and Stetson.

Simard was SSC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week as the Florida Southern College women's cross country team finished fourth at the Ed Holloway Classic at Holloway Park Friday night. The Moccasins had a great showing with several personal bests among a lineup of NCAA Division I, II, and Junior College competition. Freshman Kara Simard led the Mocs with a 14th-place finish with a time of 23:46.1, setting a new personal best in the 6K. The Mocs finished ahead of Sunshine State Conference foes Palm Beach Atlantic (5th), Eckerd (6th), and Saint Leo (7th).
