FRIPP ISLAND, S.C. - The No. 6 Florida Southern men's golf team placed third at the Golfweek Fripp Island to Bermuda Invite at the Ocean Point Golf Links in Fripp Island, S.C. on Tuesday afternoon.
Jack VanderSchuur posted a top-three finish, finishing third with a three-round score of 211 (-5). The freshman made an eagle on the 502-yard par-5 fourth, and carded four more birdies on the day.
Donte Groppuso, who played the entire tournament without his own driver, finished tied-19th, with an under-par round of 70. He finished the tournament one over and carded five birdies in the final round.
Tyler Mistretta and Max Barile finished the tournament tied-24th, with a two-over three-round score of 218. Barile posted his best round of the tournament, shooting a four-under, 68 to climb 23 spots on the leaderboard.
Colton Swartz rounded out the Moccasin lineup with a tied-44th finish. He carded two birdies and shot an even par in the final round of the tournament.
Lee University won the tournament with a 25-under tournament. Drew Zielinski of Lee won the tournament at three under and was awarded a start in the PGA Tour Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
The Moccasins climbed the leaderboard over the final 18 after carding a final round 279 (-9), the second-lowest round of the day. Florida Southern finished with a team score of 862 (-2) for the 54-hole event and claimed wins over Sunshine State Conference foes Rollins, Barry, and Nova Southeastern while finishing above No. 4 West Florida by 17 strokes.
