DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Florida Southern (5-7-2, 2-6-1 SSC) men's soccer team powered to a victory behind goals from
Joao Lopes, and
Tim Baierlein to secure a 3-1 victory over Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (2-12-2, 0-8-1 SSC) on Wednesday at Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium, with the visiting team scoring twice in the first half.
Lopes found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal, while Moffat added his fifth of the season and 14th of his Moccasin career. Baierlein continued his strong campaign with his eighth goal of the year to help secure the win for the Mocs.
The first half began with the Moccasins taking early control, quickly establishing momentum against Embry-Riddle. Lopes opened the scoring for Florida Southern in the 10th minute, capitalizing on an assist from
Dylan Lowther. Shortly after, a team effort resulted in another goal, extending FSC's lead to 2-0 by the 13th minute.
Despite Embry-Riddle's attempts to respond, including several shots on goal, Florida Southern's defense, anchored by goalkeeper
Lasse Dettmer, maintained the advantage. The Moccasins closed the half ahead 2-0, effectively setting the tone for the remainder of the match.
The second half began with Florida Southern maintaining their lead and extending it in the 55th minute. Baierlein capitalized on an assist from Lowther to put the visitors ahead 3-0. Embry-Riddle responded with a goal from Kaden Stoddard in the 77th minute, narrowing the deficit.
The Moccasins remained resilient, creating opportunities and maintaining defensive pressure.
Daniel Shabani and
Dakota Henry each had attempts on goal, with Henry's shot being saved by Embry-Riddle's Marcos da Silva. The period concluded with Florida Southern securing a 3-1 victory.
Lopes scored a goal and contributed to the team's offensive efforts with two shots. Baierlein added another goal, converting his only shot on target. Lowther facilitated the attack by providing two assists, boosting the team's playmaking capabilities. Dettmer made two saves, helping secure a win for Florida Southern.
Kaden Stoddard scored a goal on his only shot of the match, making a significant impact on the scoreboard. Blake Leo contributed to the team's offensive efforts by providing the sole assist in the game. Da Silva, in goal, recorded three saves over 90 minutes, facing nine shots and allowing three goals. Matteo Moreno Madrid and Riley Aldana each registered one shot on goal, adding to the team's attacking attempts.
In their next game, Florida Southern will host Barry University on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 6 p.m. ET at Berend Field in Lakeland, Florida. This game will serve as senior night at the departing veterans will be honored prior to kickoff.Â
