Late Goal Lifts Mocs Over Tars in 1-0 Victory

Hasegawa scored her second goal of 2025 and Brodsky secured her seventh shutout of the season

WINTER PARK, Fla. — Florida Southern College women's soccer (6-1-2, 3-1-1 SSC) secured a 1-0 victory over Rollins College (4-4-1, 0-3-1 SSC) with a second-half goal at Cahall-Sandspur Field on Wednesday night.

The first half began with the Moccasins pressing forward, as Madison Male initiated the offensive efforts with an early shot in the 11th minute. Rilee Hasegawa and Sierra Spirk followed with attempts at goal, but both were denied by Rollins' goalkeeper, Lauren Mehos. Florida Southern's defense, anchored by Carly Brodsky in goal, held firm, making a crucial save against Alice Tesser's shot in the 25th minute.

As the half progressed, the Mocs continued to apply pressure, with a late shot by Jasmin Adames in the 43rd minute also saved by Mehos. The defense remained resolute against the Tars' attacks, culminating in a scoreless tie at the end of the first half.

The second half began with Florida Southern maintaining pressure through consistent offensive efforts. In the 70th minute, Hasegawa capitalized on an assist from Liliana Jeffries to put the Mocs ahead 1-0. The team continued to apply pressure, earning multiple corner kicks to sustain the offensive momentum.

FSC's defense held firm, withstanding attempts from Rollins, including a shot by Gabby Boyd that missed the mark. The half closed with Florida Southern preserving their lead, concluding the match 1-0 in favor of the Mocs.

Hasegawa scored the game-winning goal for the Moccasins, converting one of her two shots on goal, and her second goal of the season. Jeffries contributed with an assist, her first of 2025. Brodsky recorded a shutout in goal, making two saves to secure the team's victory, her seventh shutout of the season.

Mehos was in goal for the Tars, recording three saves while allowing only one goal in 90 minutes. Tesser contributed offensively with two shots, including one on target. Skylar Kruszka also made an impact with one shot on goal, maintaining pressure on the opposition. Emma McMurry and Boyd each added to the team's attacking efforts with one shot apiece.

Looking ahead, Florida Southern College will host Edward Waters University on October 12 at 6 p.m. The matchup is set to take place at Berend Field in Lakeland, Fla.
