Women's Soccer Shut Out Eagles to Advance in SSC Tournament

FSC won 2-0 to advance to the SSC Semifinal to be played on Thursday, Nov. 13

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Florida Southern College women's soccer team (9-2-6, 3-2-5 SSC) secured a 2-0 victory over Embry-Riddle (6-2-9, 4-1-5 SSC) on Monday night in the Sunshine State Conference Quarterfinal at Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.

The first half commenced with Florida Southern pressing early as Jasmin Adames delivered a shot on target at the 4:55 mark, requiring a save from the Eagles' goalkeeper Stella Roane. The Mocs maintained pressure through a series of corner kicks, with another shot attempt by Ellie Dossantos narrowly missing the target in the 23rd minute.

Defensively, Florida Southern held strong, limiting ERAU to only a few off-target attempts, including a shot by Matilda Taylor in the 40th minute. As the half concluded, both teams remained scoreless, with the Mocs showing a solid effort in maintaining the balance of play. The score remained 0-0 at the end of the first half.

The second half began with a pivotal moment for FSC as Aliya Roberts scored in the 48th minute, putting the visitors ahead 1-0. Isabella Payne then extended the lead to 2-0 with her goal in the 73rd minute. Despite a series of attempts from the Eagles, including shots from Taylor and Julia Hyppel that were saved by Carly Brodsky, the Moccasins maintained their defensive solidity. The half closed with FSC holding a 2-0 advantage, securing the victory.

Brodsky recorded a shutout with two saves over 90 minutes, her 11th shutout of the season. Payne scored one goal on three shots, all on target, enhancing her season tally. Roberts netted the game-winning goal, converting her sole shot into a decisive score.

Roane was in goal for the Eagles with five saves across 90 minutes, facing 13 shots and conceding two goals. Midfielders Taylor and Hyppel each contributed with two shots, one of which was on goal. Lauryn Mateo led the team in attempts, recording three shots, but was unable to find the target.
