Florida Southern debuted at No. 18 in the first regular season NABC Division II Coaches Poll, earning national recognition after a 4–1 start under head coach Mike Donnelly.
The No. 18 Moccasins opened the season with an 88–76 win over Alaska Anchorage as part of the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic, setting the tone for a strong opening stretch that also included victories over then-RV Clark Atlanta, Savannah State, and Staten Island.
Florida Southern has been one of the nation's most explosive teams, averaging 92.8 points per game while outscoring opponents by more than 16 points per contest. The Mocs are shooting 45 percent from the field and nearly 38 percent from 3-point range.
Elijah Walsh and Amare Miller swept the Sunshine State Conference's first weekly awards of the year, with Walsh earning SSC Player of the Week and Miller taking SSC Defensive Player of the Week. Miller, who is averaging 16.0 points and 8.0 rebounds, also ranks second in Division II in blocks, anchoring a defense that holds opponents to 39 percent shooting.
Brady Corso leads the Mocs with 17.0 points per game, followed by Miller and Walsh (15.4). Florida Southern is grabbing 44.8 rebounds per game and forcing 16 turnovers per outing.
The Mocs continue their homestand later this week, hosting the Century Retail Thanksgiving Classic, facing Winona State on Friday and Bemidji State on Saturday, both with 7:30 PM tipoff times.
