Mocs Beat Tigers in Regular Season Finale

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Southern College women's soccer team (8-2-6, 3-2-5 SSC) secured a 2-1 victory over Edward Waters (4-10-1) with a game-winning goal in the second half at Nathaniel Glover Community Field & Stadium. 

The first half began with both teams establishing their defensive setups. FSC created an early opportunity with Aliya Roberts, forcing a save from Edward Waters' Olivia Galloway. The momentum shifted in the 27th minute when Isabella Payne scored, assisted by Ellie Dossantos and Liliana Jeffries, giving the Moccasins a 1-0 lead.

Edward Waters quickly responded four minutes later with a goal from Dadie Cherenfant, assisted by Ellen Shurman, leveling the score at 1-1. The half concluded with the score tied, setting the stage for a competitive second half.

The second half began with both teams seeking to shift momentum in their favor. Florida Southern's Carly Brodsky made an early impact with a save in the 50th minute, maintaining the narrow advantage. Bria Weldon and Sammie Markey each tested Edward Waters' goalkeeper Olivia Galloway, who made crucial saves to keep the game close.

As the half progressed, the Mocs continued to apply pressure, capitalizing on a corner opportunity late in the match. Ava Hackworth scored in the 87th minute, securing the lead. FSC's defensive efforts prevented any late equalizers, closing the match with a 2-1 victory over the Tigers.

Payne scored one goal on two shots, with one shot on goal. Hackworth netted the game-winning goal, converting her only shot on target. Dossantos contributed with one assist, enhancing the team's offensive play. Brodsky recorded one save, ensuring a solid defensive effort.

Olivia Galloway was in goal for EWU, recording three saves while facing six shots and conceding two goals. Shurman contributed to the offense with an assist, providing a key setup in the match. Cherenfant was the sole goal-scorer for the Tigers. 

Looking ahead, Florida Southern will compete in the Sunshine State Conference tournament, with quarterfinals beginning on Monday, Nov. 10.
