LAKELAND, Fla. — No. 16 Florida Southern College men's basketball (9-1) secured a decisive 97-63 victory over Lincoln University (2-5) on Wednesday night at Jenkins Field House. Florida Southern College's defense was highlighted by 15 steals, contributing significantly to their win.
"We continue to do a good job sharing the ball and our connectivity continues to improve," said Mocs' head coach
Mike Donnelly. "We did a good job executing our full-court pressure and we did a good job on the glass as well."
The game began with Florida Southern setting an early pace, highlighted by
Brady Corso's opening three-pointer.
Elijah Walsh and
Charlie Dalton were instrumental, each contributing assists to maintain momentum.
Amare Miller added a dunk to further energize the team, while
Ameer Ramadan's three-pointer extended the advantage.
Florida Southern capitalized on turnovers, with Dalton and Corso each making crucial steals and assists, resulting in fast-break opportunities and additional points.
Khalil Ross and
Spencer Schomers also contributed with key baskets during this stretch. The home team maintained defensive pressure, allowing only one fast-break point from the Lions.
As the half closed, Florida Southern continued to excel offensively, with Corso hitting another three-pointer and Miller capping off the half with a buzzer-beater three. The half ended with the Moccasins leading 50–30.
Florida Southern began the second half with a rapid scoring burst, opening with Miller's tip-in and jumper to extend their lead. Ramadan contributed a three-pointer and an assist on Dalton's fast-break layup, further increasing the gap. The team capitalized on turnovers and maintained defensive pressure, allowing only five points off turnovers.
Throughout the half, Florida Southern expanded their lead with efficient shooting, including a three-pointer by
Jasir Tremble and a dunk by Schomers. The Mocs also excelled on fast breaks and second-chance points, accumulating 30 points in the paint. The Lions struggled to respond, managing limited scoring despite several attempts.
The half concluded with the Mocs maintaining their momentum, with late points by
Riley Buccino,, Raphael Tawil, and
Luke McGinnis. Florida Southern closed the half leading 97-63.
Miller scored 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting, leading all scorers. Corso added 12 points, hitting four 3-pointers and recording four steals. Ramadan contributed nine points, sinking three 3-pointers and dishing out six assists. Â Dalton posted 10 points, seven assists, and three steals, showcasing his all-around game.
Looking ahead, Florida Southern will face Lynn on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 4 p.m. The matchup will take place at de Hoernle Sports and Cultural Center in Boca Raton, Florida. The Mocs will be traveling for this encounter.
