LAKELAND, Fla. – Florida Southern College men's lacrosse head coach
Marty Ward announced the addition of
Gavin Jens to his coaching staff. Jens is a recent graduate of York College of Pennsylvania where he helped lead his team to three-straight NCAA Division III Tournament appearances including making it just one game away from the National Championship game as a sophomore. Jens will be working with the substitution box, faceoff unit, and the "Gut" midfield group.
"We are very excited to add Gavin to our program and staff," said coach Ward. "Gavin has a great lacrosse background and stood out amongst a competitive group of candidates. We are excited to welcome Gavin to our Florida Southern lacrosse family."
Jens spent four years on the York College of Pennsylvania men's lacrosse team and took home the "Fox Hole" award, which is awarded to a teammate that is consistently and actively making the environment better. He appeared in 39 career contests for the Spartans while scooping up 17 ground balls and assisting on a pair of goals. He also caused six turnovers while registering eight shots.
"I am incredibly excited and deeply grateful for the opportunity to step into this role," said coach Jens. "I'm especially grateful to Coach Ward for giving me this opportunity and believing in me. Being selected is both an honor and a responsibility that I hold with great respect. I am especially thankful for the belief placed in me and for the chance to learn within a program shaped by the leadership of Coach Ward, whose experience and distinguished presence in men's lacrosse have set an exceptional standard. To join a team guided by someone of his caliber is a rare and meaningful opportunity. I look forward to growing, contributing, and embracing every challenge ahead as I work to rise to the expectations of this program and the trust invested in me."
Jens most recently served as an assistant boy's lacrosse coach at Martinsburg High School in Martinsburg, W.Va. after completing an internship with the Athletic Director at the high school. He also spent time as an assistant coach at White Rose Lacrosse Club in York, Pa.
