LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 13 Florida Southern College men's tennis team lost 6-1 against No. 2 Flagler College on Saturday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.

The Moccasins (0-2) lost doubles and had a few singles courts go to three sets but only won court six in the 6-1 loss. The Saints (1-0) had a big season-opening match with a doubles point and strong singles competition to beat the Mocs.

To open the competition, the Mocs faced a tough doubles competition that finished in favor of the Saints. At the number one court,
Chris Fok Kow and
Mario Garoz lost 6-3 to Rafiq and Malis, with the same result on court two by
George Russell and
Edoardo Melindo against Mercier and Borlee. The third court went unfinished and tied 4-4 at stoppage for
Sam Frizelle and
Matthew Hewitt.

In singles, the Mocs settled with one court win from
Bosko Boskovic in a third set after splitting the first two sets. Garoz took No. 28 Simon Malis to three sets but lost 6-3 in the tiebreak. Russell also took his court to three sets, losing 6-1 in the final. Frizelle lost to No. 8 Aniss Rafiq in two, and Fok Kow lost to No. 20 Baptiste Mercier in two sets.

The Mocs will take a short break and resume play on Tuesday, Feb. 18 as the Mocs host Palm Beach Atlantic University at 2 p.m. at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
