ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The No. 7 Florida Southern College baseball team resumed conference play with a 10-3 win against Eckerd College on Friday night at the Turley Athletic Complex.

The Moccasins (17-4, 6-1 SSC) dominated the series opener, only allowing a couple of runs in the final innings. The Tritons (5-19, 1-6 SSC) only managed four hits in the conference loss.

Florida Southern had a big day from
Grant Thoroman, who led the team with three hits and three RBI. He hit the only home run of the game and added a double, extending his hit streak to 10 games. Thoroman joined
Ahmad Fitts as Moccasins with extra-base hits.
Cleary Simpson had the other multi-hit day, finishing with two hits and one RBI.
Jevin Relaford had a day himself, a two RBI outing in game one.

Sachem Ramos won his fourth game of the season after going seven innings, surrendering only one hit and no runs scored with his five strikeouts. Ramos was relieved by
Logan Adams, Ty Bradle, and
Robert Tracy III to wrap up the final two innings, allowing a combined two runs scored.

The Tritons were led by a multi-hit day from Dawson Jones, hitting two of the four hits by Eckerd. Zade Stark and Joey Bazydlo had the other solo hits on the day. Dearl Edens had the start for EC and was handed the loss, giving up four runs in the first 1.2 innings of work. He was relieved by Rocco Calise and Jack Lizewski to finish the game. The pitching staff had a combined 10 strikeouts, two more than FSC tallied in their 38 batters faced.

The Mocs opened the first inning with a two-out home run by Thoroman as the first run of the day, followed by three runs in the second inning for an early 4-0 lead. FSC had an RBI double by Fitts, RBI single by
Cory Filley, and bases loaded walk to score the three runs in the second. The scoring continued with a RBI groundout by Thoroman to go up by five, before matching the five runs with five in the seventh inning. RBI hits and a wild pitch led to the five runs scored in the inning, adding to a 10-0 FSC lead. The Tritons responded with two runs in the eighth and a single run in the ninth, but that was not enough as FSC won game one of the series by a 10-3 score.

The Mocs will wrap up their series against the Tritons with a doubleheader tomorrow, March 15, with game one beginning at 1 p.m. at the Turley Athletic Complex.
