LAKELAND, Fla. - The No.37 Florida Southern College women's tennis team win streak improved to 11 after defeating Palm Beach Atlantic University 7-0 at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center in Sunshine State Conference.
The Moccasins (11-2, 2-2 SSC) earned the early point in doubles play against the Sailfish (4-10, 1-4 SSC) winning all doubles pairings. FSC earned the first win at court No.2 with
Emily Jennewein and
Ronja Scheuermann winning 6-2.
Kennedi Brown and
Kelly Klaren won the second doubles match at the top doubles court to solidify the Mocs doubles point winning 6-1. At the No.3 doubles court,
Annika Berrendorf and
Jolie Miller finished a sweep defeating PBA 6-3 to take an early 1-0 lead.
In singles action, Jennewein earned the early win at the No. 5 slot as FSC made it 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 win. Scheuermann defeated Virginia Borja at No.3 singles slot winning the first set 6-3 and set two 6-0 to improve the Mocs to 3-0.
Continuing hot in conference play,
Beatriz Costa won in the No.2 singles taking down her Sailfish opponent winning both sets 6-4 to clinch the Mocs win and make it 4-0. No. 25
Olivia Bryant claimed the fifth straight win for the Mocs at the top singles spot winning 6-3, 6-2 against Alina Hoermann.
The final two courts rallied, forcing an extra set at court six as Klaren won in three sets 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. The final court to finish was Berrendorf rallying in the tiebreaker in set one, 7-6 (11-9, before dominating set two 6-2.
Florida Southern takes a week off and will return to action on Saturday, March 29, when they travel for another SSC match against Lynn University. The first serve is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the Perper Tennis Complex in Boca Raton.
