Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. - The No.26 Florida Southern College women's tennis team traveled to take on No.37 Lynn University at the Perper Tennis Complex in Sunshine State Conference action, falling in a battle that came down to the final match, 4-3 on Saturday afternoon.
The Moccasins (11-3, 2-2 SSC) earned the early point in doubles play against the Fighting Knights (8-5, 4-2 SSC) winning two of the three doubles matches. FSC fell in the top doubles spot 6-3, but earned the first win at court No.2 with
Emily Jennewein and
Ronja Scheuermann winning 6-1.
Annika Berrendorf and
Jolie Miller sealed the point winning at the third doubles court with a 6-4 final, to take a 1-0 lead.
In singles action,
Kelly Klaren made it 2-0 winning the sixth singles spot with a 6-4, 6-1 final. Lynn cut FSC's lead in half, winning at the second singles court, with
Beatriz Costa falling 6-2 in both sets.
No. 23 Oivia Bryant fell at the top court, 6-3, 6-3 as the Fighting Knights tied the game up at 2-2. The remaining matches battled on all courts as the next court to finish went in favor of the Mocs to break the tie and earn a 3-2 lead with Berrendorf winning in three sets, 6-0, 3-6, 6-1. Needing just one more point to continue the 11-game win streak, the Mocs forced a tie-breaker on the fourth court with Scheuermann falling to No.60 Carla Galmiche 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2) to tie it up once again.
With all eyes on court five, Jennewein fell in the first set 7-5, but bounced back to force a third set, winning set two 6-3. In the final set, the entire match was determined by a tiebreaker as the Fighting Knight's earned the win with a 7-6 (7-1) win in the third set.
Florida Southern returns to action April 3, as they travel to face another SSC opponent in Eckerd College. The first serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
