LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 21 Florida Southern College men's tennis team rallied in singles to win 4-3 over St. Mary's University on Sunday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
The Moccasins (5-4, 1-2 SSC) lost the doubles point but took over the singles competition to win the match. The Rattlers (3-3, 0-0 LSC) could not hold off the final court as
Bosko Boskovic clinched the match 4-3.
In doubles,
Sam Frizelle and
George Russell lost by a 6-3 score at the #2 court before
Chris Fok Kow and Mario Garoz evened the board with a 7-5 win at the #1 court. The final court of
Edoardo Melindo and
Hunter Nussbaum went to a tiebreak 6-6 but ultimately lost, and the doubles point went to the Rattlers.
For singles, the Mocs rallied with three singles court wins early, led by Fok Kow at #2, winning 6-1, 6-2. Garoz also beat No. 71 Alvaro Soler 6-3, 6-4, while Frizelle won the #1 court in three sets. St. Mary's won courts 4 and 5 over Russell and
Matthew Hewitt in two sets each, leading the match to the #6 court of
Bosko Boskovic and Lincoln Baldonado. Boskovic won the first set 6-4 and kept his momentum into the second set, winning 6-2 to clinch the match 4-3.
The Mocs will have a quick turnaround as they host No. 41 Ferris State University on Monday, March 10, set for a 3 p.m. start at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
