Women's Tennis Hands St. Mary's First Loss in 6-1 Win on Sunday Afternoon

LAKELAND, Fla - The Florida Southern College women's tennis team earned a 6-1 win over St. Mary's University handing the Rattler's its first loss of the season. 
 
In doubles action, the Moccasins (6-2) earned the early point as Ronja Scheuermann and Emily Jennewein defeated the Rattlers (4-1) #2 doubles with a dominating 6-0 win. At the #1 doubles court, Kennedi Brown and Kelly Klaren sealed the doubles point for FSC with a 6-2 win as the Mocs went up 1-0.
 
In singles action, Annika Berrendorf made it 2-0 for the Mocs, defeating her St. Mary's opponent in the #5 singles slot 6-4, 6-1. The Rattlers took a point from the Mocs at the second court with Beatriz Costa falling in 6-3, 6-4 to make it 2-1. 
 
Florida Southern went on to dominate the rest of the courts as Jennewein forced three sets to fall in the first set but won the next to improve the Mocs to 3-1, with scores of 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. At the #3 singles, Scheuermann clinched the win for FSC winning in a tie with a 6-3, 7-6 (0-0) to earn the 4-1 win. 
 
At the top court, Olivia Bryant defeated the Rattler's #27 Selina Wu as she won with a 6-2, 7-5 final to make it 5-1. In the final court, Kelly Klaren fell in set one 7-5, but battled back in set two, 6-1 to force a tiebreaker where Klaren took home the win 1-0 (10-2). 
 
Florida Southern returns to action on Tuesday, March 11 as they host Bucknell University. The first serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
