BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 14 Florida Southern College men's tennis team outlasted No. 35 Lynn University in a 4-3 conference win on Tuesday afternoon at the Perper Tennis Complex.
The Moccasins (12-5, 2-3 SSC) lost the doubles point but rallied in singles to overtake Lynn for the win. The Fighting Knights (8-4, 2-3 SSC) could not hold of FSC in the singles competition, losing 4-3.
In doubles, Chris Fok Kow and Mario Garoz lost 6-3 at the #1 court, as did Bosko Boskovic and Gabriel Jornert 6-4 at the #2 court. The only doubles court win was Sam Frizelle and Matthew Hewitt, who won 6-2 at the #3 court, though the doubles point went to Lynn.
For singles, Garoz opened with a big 6-2, 6-1 win at #3, followed by Frizelle 6-4, 6-4 at #1 for a 2-1 team score. Hewitt kept the hot streak going with a three-set win at the #4 court, 3-1, before Lynn managed the first singles court win at #6 over Edoardo Melindo. The Fighting Knights tied the team score, 3-3, with a win at #5 over Boskovic, leaving the match up to Fok Kow at #2. Fok Kow won the first set 7-5, lost the second 6-1, and won the third set 6-3 to clinch the match.
The Mocs will have another road trip to face Eckerd College on Saturday, April 5, set for an 11 a.m. start at the Fred Bullard Courts.
