LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 11 Florida Southern College men's tennis team rallied in singles competition with a 4-3 win against No. 15 Rollins College on Senior Day Thursday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
The Moccasins (14-5, 4-3 SSC) lost doubles but rallied in singles with four court wins to clinch the match. The Tars (11-8, 4-3 SSC) won doubles 2-1 but were unable to stop the Mocs in singles for the conference loss. Today's win snapped a 10-game losing streak to Rollins and marked the first winning SSC record since 2010.
In doubles, the No. 44 pairing of
Chris Fok Kow and
Mario Garoz lost by a narrow 6-4 score to Anterist and Gusic at the #1 court. At the #3 court,
Sam Frizelle and
Matthew Hewitt had a big 6-3 win over Cappellaro and Stoiberer to keep the doubles even at 1-1. Despite a lead at the #2 court for
Bosko Boskovic and
Gabriel Jornert, the Tars de Giacomo and Quaynor rallied to win 7-5 to take the doubles point.
For singles, the Mocs opened with a big 6-3, 6-3 win at the #1 court for #63 Frizelle over Quaynor. FSC then had a win at the #3 court with a 6-2, 7-6 victory by Fok Kow over Gusic. The third team point was from
Edoardo Melindo with a 6-4, 7-5 win at the #6 court over Cappellaro. The Tars broke the scoring by the Mocs with a court win at the #4 court with a three-set loss by Hewitt. However, the Mocs clinched the match with a big #2 court win by Garoz 7-6, 7-6. The final court of Boskovic went in favor of the Tars after a third set, though Mocs won 4-3.
The Mocs will travel to Valdosta, Ga., to take on No. 2 Valdosta State University on Saturday, April 12, and No. 1 University of West Florida on Sunday, April 13.
