VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 11 Florida Southern College men's tennis team lost its match 4-1 against No. 2 Valdosta State University on Saturday afternoon at the VSU Tennis Courts.
The Moccasins (14-6, 4-3 SSC) had one doubles court win and one singles court win to highlight the matchup against VSU. The Blazers (15-0, 8-0 GSC) remain undefeated in the regular season with the clinched match win over the Mocs.
In doubles, Valdosta State controlled most of the courts, securing a doubles point with a 2-1 advantage. The No. 44 pairing of Chris Fok Kow and Mario Garoz lost 6-2 to the No. 13 pairing of Edgar Destouet and Arthur Bord. At the #2 court, Bosko Boskovic and Gabriel Jornert lost 6-2 against Boruch Skierkier and Jan Skerbatis. Sam Frizelle and Matthew Hewitt won the only doubles court for the Mocs, with a 6-1 win, the fourth-straight win for the pairing.
For singles, FSC had a single court win from Garoz, ranked No. 56 in singles Division II, with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at the #3 court. The Blazers clinched the match with three singles court wins, starting with a two –set win by No. 13 Destouet over Fok Kow. Hewitt and Edoardo Melindo also lost their courts in two sets for VSU to clinch the match 4-1. Frizelle and Boskovic split the first two sets with their competition, though the match went unfinished with the match win to the Blazers.
The Mocs will remain in Valdosta to take on No. 1 University of West Florida tomorrow, April 13, with a 10 a.m. start at the VSU Tennis Courts.
