VALDOSTA, Ga. - The No.34 Florida Southern College women's tennis team continued action in Valdosta, Ga., facing No.10 West Florida on Sunday morning. The Moccasins (14-5) rallied until the final court, falling to the Argos (13-7) 4-3 at the VSU Tennis Courts.
FSC earned the early point in doubles play winning two of the three doubles matches. The top doubles spot of
Kelly Klaren and
Kennedi Brown defeated the No.6 ranked Argos doubles pair 6-2 followed by the #2 doubles
Emily Jennewein and
Ronja Scheuermann winning 6-1 to take an early 1-0 lead. The #3 doubles of
Annika Berrendorf and
Jolie Miller fell on the final court with a 6-2 final score.
In singles action, West Florida won the first two matches to take a 2-1 lead as Scheuermann fell to No.64 and Berrendorf fell to the No.51 ranked Argos. West Florida quickly jumped out to a 3-1 lead winning the #2 singles spot but FSC tied the match up 3-3 as No. 11
Olivia Bryant defeated No. 23 Carlota Verdu in the tiebreaker, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). Klaren followed by forcing three sets after dropping the first 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 to force the overall results onto the fifth court.
With all eyes on the final court, freshman Jennewein and Nathalia Mossambani battled it out forcing a three-set tiebreaker that fell in the Argo's favor winning 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3.
Florida Southern returns to action Thursday, April 17 as they honor the seniors before the match. The Mocs are scheduled to face Rollins at 3:00 p.m. at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
