LAKELAND, Fla. - The #18 Florida Southern College women's tennis team honored the five seniors with a 4-3 win over #34 Rollins College in Sunshine State Conference action on Thursday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
The Moccasins (15-5) recognized
Kelly Klaren,
Olivia Bryant,
Karina Bazilevych,
Vivien Charvatova, and
Beatriz Costa before the match as well as honored head coach
Trish Riddell as she recently just became winningest coach in program history. Riddell sits with 260 wins after today's match.
In doubles action, FSC won the early point in doubles play winning two of the three doubles matches. The No. 29 doubles pair of
Kelly Klaren and
Kennedi Brown fell just short falling to the Tars top spot 6-2. FSC went on to win the next two doubles matches and seal the early point. The #2 pairs of
Emily Jennewein and
Ronja Scheuermann won 6-2 followed by
Annika Berrendorf and
Jolie Miller forcing the tiebreaker to win 7-6 (8-6).
In singles action, Jennewein earned the first win for the Mocs to improve 2-0, winning 6-1, 6-0. ERAU won the #2 singles spot with
Beatriz Costa falling 6-0, 6-1. Berrendorf won the 4 singles spot to make it 6-4, 7-5 and improve the Mocs lead to 3-1. No. 8
Olivia Bryant captured the win for FSC to seal the 4-1 win with a tiebreaker in three sets keeping the match on its toes, 0-6, 6-1, 7-6 (8-6).
The #3 and #5 singles matches fell in favor of the Tars but Mocs sealed the win early with a 4-3 win over ranked Rollins on senior day.
Florida Southern now awaits the pairings and seeding for the Sunshine State Conference tournament which will held April 25-27 at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center, West Palm Beach
