#10 Mocs Hosts West Alabama on Opening Day of the NCAA South Region Tournament

Mocs take on the Tigers in the 6 p.m. game on Thursday, May 15

LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 10/two-seed Florida Southern College baseball team will host the 2025 NCAA South Region Bracket #2 May 15-18, featuring FSC, seven-seed the University of West Alabama, three-seed University of West Florida, and six-seed Delta State University. Florida Southern will face West Alabama as its first opponent on Thursday, May 15, at 6 p.m.

No. 10/Two-Seed Moccasins (36-13-1)
Florida Southern ended the regular season with a series win over Rollins College, taking the first two games, followed by a tied game due to lightning in the regular season finale. Ranked No. 10 in the latest NCBWA Top 25 poll, the Moccasins are one of the best in the nation in stolen bases, with 216 SB in 2025, smashing the previous program season record of 167 set in 1998. Overall FSC is outscoring opponents 439-272 in 2025. The pitching staff has a 4.73 ERA.
 
Earlier this week, the Moccasins had Ahmad Fitts (UT), Grant Thoroman (OF), Mikey Scott (OF), and Noah Rabin (OF) named All-SSC First Team. Starters Sachem Ramos and Logan Adams were awarded All-SSC Second Team honors with Rohsean Riley (3B), Cory Filley (C), and Thoroman (OF) named to the All-Defensive Team. This is the third career All-SSC honor for Riley, twice named All-Defensive (2024, 2025) and First Team in 2023. Scott was named First Team in 2024 as a utility player with Saint Leo before transferring to Florida Southern.
 
No. 20/Three-seed Argonauts (33-19)
West Florida is making its 11th NCAA appearance, having won the national championship in 2011. A strong team in the GSC, the Argos had Freshman of the Year Alex Urias, followed by First Team winners Dalton Neuschwander and Brett Rowell, and Second Team winners Jacob Heath, Kade Manderschied, and Dom Presto. Florida Southern won the regular season series against UWF, winning 7-0 in the season opener, losing 7-10, and then a 10-7 win to secure the series.
 
Six-seed Statesmen (32-18)
Delta State makes its 36th appearance in the postseason, capturing the regular season title in the Gulf South Conference, though went 0-2 in the tournament to drop out of the conference title race. The Statesmen have a strong All-GSC presence, including the Pitcher of the Year Drake Fontenot. Other all-conference winners included Brett Burrell and Dylan Farley. Head coach Rodney Batts was named the GSC Coach of the Year.
 
Seven-seed Tigers (32-23)
West Alabama made the NCAA postseason an automatic bid winning the Gulf South Conference Championship this season. UWA enters on a hot streak, winning 12 of the last 13 games. All-conference winners for the Tigers included First Team selections Bryant Quimby and Judah Buckner.

Tournament History
Florida Southern has its first regional appearance since the 2023 season when the Mocs were selected as the No. 7 seed in a tournament hosted by West Florida. This is the first time since 2018 that the Mocs hosted the regional tournament. Florida Southern went 3-0 in the region in the 2018 tournament, the program's 21st region championship, later finishing in third place in the NCAA Championship. FSC ties NCAA Division II record nine national championships with a 153-84 overall record in the NCAA postseason.
 
Other NCAA South Region Games
The University of Tampa hosts the South #1 bracket this year, hosting Mississippi College, Lynn University, and Albany State University. Games also take place May 15-18, at 1:00 and 5:00 p.m. start times. The first matchups of that bracket will be Tampa against Albany State, followed by Mississippi College and Lynn.
 
NCAA Super Regionals
Winners of each of the two brackets will face off in the NCAA Super Regionals, May 22-24, hosted by the remaining higher-seeded team. The winner of the South Region Championship will earn a ticket to Cary, N.C. in the Division II National Championship May 30-June 6.
