LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 10 Florida Southern College baseball team had its series opener against Rollins College halted in the top of the ninth inning on Thursday afternoon at Henley Field.

The Moccasins (34-13, 18-9 SSC) led 10-1 over the Tars (29-17, 18-9 SSC) in the top of the ninth inning before being halted due to lightning. After extended delays, the game was decided to resume tomorrow, May 9, at noon before the start of game two of the series.

Florida Southern was the first to score in the second inning after a scoreless first inning.
Cory Filley opened the runs with a two-RBI double, scoring
Rohsean Riley and
Noah Rabin. Rollins responded with a sacrifice fly in the third to score one, with limited hits by both sides. Base on balls for FSC put several runners on for the next few innings, with a four-run inning in the fifth. Riley had a sac fly for the first run, followed by a three-run homer by
Ahmad Fitts to make it a 6-1 lead.
Sachem Ramos pitched six innings, allowing only a single run, relieved by
Casey O'Dell to keep the Tars scoreless in five straight innings.

While FSC's pitching continued to shine, the Mocs scored another four in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI fielder's choice by
Brady Doorey and a two-RBI single by
Mikey Scott. The Mocs carried the nine-run lead into the top of the ninth inning with a pitching change for FSC.
Colby Rice had a 2-1 count on his first batter in the ninth before the game was halted due to lightning, FSC up 10-1.

The Mocs will resume game one tomorrow, May 9, at 12 p.m., with game two of the series starting 45 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
