ALBANY, Ga. - The Florida Southern men's golf team opened the 2025-26 campaign with a strong showing in the first two rounds of the Hurricane Invitational, sitting in first place after day one at the Doublegate Country Club.
Two Moccasins fired under-par rounds to start the day, as junior
Colton Swartz fired a 71 in the opening round, and freshman
Jack VanderSchuur posted an impressive 69 (-3) in his debut. The freshman VanderSchuur paced the Moccasins to their first-place, 36-hole ranking, as he was tied-second, four-under through two rounds of play. VanderSchuur ranks first in the field in par 4s, with a 3.90 stroke average (-2).
Also in his collegiate debut,
Anthony Monteleone had an impressive start to his first tournament, finishing the day tied-28th at four-over. Monteleone ranks second in the field in par 5s, with a 4.38 stroke average (-5).
Despite an eight-over first round,
Corey Edgar rebounded in round two of his Moccasin debut shooting one-under. Edgar recorded his first eagle on 15, and added two more birdies in the round. Edgar was only one of fifteen players in the field to record an eagle on day one.
Rounding out the Moccasin lineup, sophomore
Max Barile finished the day tied-21st at three-over. Barile ranked second in the field in pars, carding 27 through the two rounds.

The Moccasins look to maintain the top-spot at Doublegate Country Club tomorrow, as they will play their final round of the Hurricane Invitational.
