Season Opens with Frosty First Serve at FSC Invite

LAKELAND, Fla. – Florida Southern women's tennis opened competition at the 2026 FSC Invite with a strong showing on day one, highlighted by multiple doubles victories and a series of dominant singles performances against a competitive field featuring University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), Flagler College, and St. Petersburg College (SPC).

In doubles play, the Mocs secured three wins to begin the day. The tandem of Emily Jennewein and Ronja Scheuermann earned a decisive 6-2 victory over Fairer and Waechter of Flagler, while Jolie Miller and Annika Berrendorf matched that score with a 6-2 win over Lomenzo and Ondobo. Elin Axler and Elona Simonov added another point for Florida Southern with a 6-3 triumph over Glickstein and Hubbard.

In singles action, the Mocs continued to build momentum with several impressive outings. Scheuermann captured a straight-set victory over UNCW's Aberwein, 4-1, 4-3, before later battling past SPC's Valencia in a three-set tiebreak, 3-4, 4-2, 10-7. Berrendorf also turned in a strong day, rallying for a 3-4, 4-0, 11-9 win over Hubbard (UNCW) and later defeating Schmidt (SPC) in straight sets, 4-0, 4-2.

Diana Volkov posted two wins, first outlasting Catino (UNCW) in a three-set match, 4-1, 0-4, 10-5, and later earning a 4-0 retirement victory over Goldsack (SPC). Jennewein added a dominant 4-0, 4-0 sweep against Georgieva (SPC), while Axler picked up a 4-1, 4-0 win over Lense (SPC). Samuelsson rounded out the FSC singles victories with a 4-2, 4-1 decision over Hendricks (SPC).

Florida Southern's performance on day one showcased depth throughout the lineup, with multiple Mocs earning wins in both singles and doubles play as the team continues competition at the FSC Invite. The Mocs return to the courts tomorrow for day two of the FSC Invite.
