LAKELAND, Fla. - Graduate student Donte Groppuso took the individual title at the Matlock Collegiate Classic, pacing the No. 3/5 Florida Southern men's golf team to a runner-up finish in Lakeland, Fla. 

Groppuso picked up his first tournament win as a Moccasin with an impressive 13-under performance at the Mocs' home tournament. Groppuso maintained his momentum in round three, shooting 3-under on the day. An early eagle on hole two set the tone for Groppuso to pull away from Per Ekelund (West Florida) for the field lead. Groppuso shot four more birdies on the day to finish the round with a score of 69. His three-round score of 203 was a career low. 

Anthony Monteleone competed as an individual, finishing the tournament at 3-under. The freshman shot a 73 today and carded four birdies, with back-to-back birdies on holes 16 and 17. He finished tied-sixth. 

Max Barile shot even for the Mocs, finishing tied-12th with a two-under 140. He carded a total of 10 birdies in the two rounds, with six in round one. 

Colton Swartz and Tyler Mistretta competed in the Moccasin lineup, finishing tied-19th and tied-25th, respectively.

Freshman Chris Pollak posted his first career under-par round, shooting a 71 in the final round of the tournament. Pollak jumped up the ranks, improving to tied-45th. 

Jack VanderSchuur, Jaylen Abbas, and Corey Edgar also competed as individuals, finishing tied-21st, tied-54th, and tied-69th, respectively. VanderSchuur shot 1-under on the day with six birdies. 

No. 4 West Florida took home the team title, with a three-round score of 847 (-17), while Donte Groppuso (Florida Southern) took home the individual title.

The Moccasins travel over to Saint Leo, Fla., next week to compete in the Saint Leo Invitational on February 16-17, hosted by Saint Leo University.
