WINTER PARK, Fla. — The No.11 Florida Southern women's tennis team fell 4-3 to the Rollins Tars on Wednesday afternoon at the Tennis & Golf Center, despite sweeping all three doubles matches to open the contest.
Florida Southern (0-1, 0-1 SSC) secured the doubles point with wins at every position. Kennedi Brown and Josie Holderbach earned a 6-2 victory at No. 1, Emily Jennewein and Ronja Scheuermann followed with a 6-4 win at No. 2, and Annika Berrendorf and Jolie Miller closed doubles with a 6-2 decision at No. 3.
Rollins (2-0, 1-0 SSC) responded in singles, winning four of six matches to clinch the team victory.
At No. 4 singles, Jennewein rallied for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 win to give the Moccasins their second point. Diana Volkov added a straight-sets 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 5.
Holderbach battled at the top spot but fell in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 4-6. Scheuermann also pushed her match to three sets at No. 2 before dropping a tight 2-6, 6-4, 6-7 (2-7) decision in a third-set tiebreak. Rollins earned additional straight-set wins at No. 3 and No. 6 to seal the match.
Florida Southern returns to action this Saturday with a trip down to Miami Shores, Fla. to face No.1 Barry.
