MIAMI SHORES, Fla. — Florida Southern women's tennis (0-2, 0-2 SSC) fell to No. 1 Barry University (3-0, 2-0) 7-0 on Saturday at Buccaneers Tennis Court. Florida Southern secured a doubles win at the No. 2 position but was unable to capture any singles matches.
Barry secured the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Ailen Crespo and Louane Lutringer defeated Florida Southern's
Kennedi Brown and
Josie Holderbach 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Viktoriia Dema and Anastasia Nikolova won 6-4 against
Annika Berrendorf and
Jolie Miller at No. 3 doubles. Florida Southern claimed a win at No. 2 doubles, where
Emily Jennewein and
Ronja Scheuermann edged out Dana Heimen and Jenifer Anger in a tiebreak, 7-6(8).
In singles play, Barry extended its lead with a series of straight-set victories. At No. 6 singles, Anastasia Nikolova defeated Miller 6-1, 6-1. Alina Michalitsch contributed to Barry's score at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jennewein. Louane Lutringer followed suit at No. 4 singles, overcoming
Diana Volkov 6-2, 6-3.
Barry continued its dominance with Jenifer Anger's 6-1, 6-3 victory over
Elin Axler at No. 5 singles. The match at No. 2 singles saw Viktoriia Dema secure a 6-3, 7-6(3) win against Berrendorf, rounding out the day's results. The match at No. 1 singles between Scheuermann and Ailen Crespo remained unfinished with Crespo leading 6-1, 3-1.
