OCALA, Fla. - The Florida Southern College women's swimming team placed third in the 200 free relay to highlight day four of the Sunshine State Conference Championships on Saturday at the FAST Center.
A team of
Mallory Baker,
Elizabeth Sikes,
Rania Khallouqi, and
Sam Hunter finished with a time of 1:33.93 to finish third overall in the 200 free relay. The podium spot solidified the Moccasins in fourth overall in team scoring with 257 points. The University of Tampa remains the SSC leader with 816 points, followed by Nova Southeastern University with 696 points and Lynn University with 406 points.
In the evening finals,
Gabrielle Goodwin was fifth in the consolation final with a time of 5:02.42, followed by
Natalie True in seventh with a time of 5:06.92. Two Mocs made the B final of the 100 back, as
Zoë Celi was second in the consolation final with a time of 57.68.
Kaitlyn Weitz was eighth with a time of 1:00.06. For the 100 breaststroke,
Alexa Paredes won the consolation final (1:04.01) just ahead of teammate Baker with a time of 1:04.19.
Phoebe Reid was eighth in the B final, with a time of 1:07.09.
For the 200 fly A final, Sikes was fifth overall with a time of 2:02.88, as the final individual event of the evening. The A team of the 200 free relay took third with a time of 1:33.93, as the B team was third in the first heat with a time of 1:37.43.
In prelims, True and Goodwin went back-to-back in the 500 free to make the B final, with a strong swim by
Emma Sammons with a time of 5:12.42 and
Emma Huma with a time of 5:13.92. Celi and Weitz had good times in the 100 back to make the B final, as
Lauren Helminiak was 21st overall with a time of 1:02.49. In the 100 breast, Baker and Paredes had times of 1:04.70 and 1:04.93, respectively, to make the B final, while Reid dropped nearly four seconds for a 1:07.48 prelims mark to make the evening session. The final morning event was the 200 fly as Sikes was sixth overall to make the A final. FSC went 17-19 in placement as
Josie Strobl (2:09.29),
Charlotte Bell (2:10.51), and
Sophia Kogelschatz (2:14.81) took part in the 200 fly.
The championship will conclude tomorrow, Sunday, February 15th, at 10:00 AM with Day 5 prelims. Events for the day include the 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, and 1650 freestyle. The evening finals will feature the final heat of the 1650 free and the 400 free relay to complete the championship events.
