LAKELAND, Fla. - In the Moccasin's 2026 home opener, the Florida Southern women's lacrosse team, in conjunction with the Lakeland Christian School girls lacrosse team, raised $5,200 to donate to the Team Trippy Foundation.
The Team Trippy Foundation was formed in honor of Nicholas "Trippy" Nugent, who fought a DIPG brain tumor for 18 months before sadly passing away at the age of 7. After being diagnosed, the number of people, communities, and organizations who supported Tripp was simply amazing. They provided financial and emotional support, assistance with travel and expenses, and allowed his family to make memories they will never forget. The Foundation aims to give back to those communities so that Tripp's positive impact on the world will continue even after he is gone.
During the Moccasin's home opener against Lynn on February 13th, Florida Southern and Lakeland Christian School donated 100% of their gate and parking fees, along with any other donations, directly to the Team Trippy Foundation. The foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that aims to provide families with the same kind of financial assistance and experiences if they are dealing with a childhood cancer journey.
Florida Southern and LCS had a combined goal of raising $3,000 dollars, to which they surpassed by nearly double. The teams threw out ducks in the stands for each goal they scored. The duck signified something Trippy loved to do with his dad, which was to go for Jeep rides. By catching the duck, fans were able to spread Trippy's joy all over the country by "ducking" a Jeep so he could continue going for rides.
