LAKELAND, Fla. – Juniors
Cole Summers and
Grace Reed of the Florida Southern College men's and women's track teams became the first Sunshine State Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Distance Runners of the Week of the 2026 season. This is just the second season the conference has handed out weekly awards for track and the Moccasins have claimed four honors on the women's team and four honors for the men. Summers and Reed earn the first weekly honors of their careers after a strong showing at the opening meet of the season, the Tampa Spartans Open.

Summers kicked off the outdoor season by taking home first place in the 5000m, finishing with a time of 14:35.70. The Mocs dominated the event, having four finishers in the top five with Summers leading the pack.

Reed led the women's team as she took first place in the 1500m with a time of 4:33.44, a new program record. She surpassed the previous record of 4:42.40 set in 2019 by Hannah Fleming. Reed now holds four Florida Southern women's track records, all of which have been set this indoor and outdoor season.

The men's and women's track teams will be back in action Friday, March 13 at the Tampa Spartans Classic.
