SAINT LEO, Fla. — No. 10 Florida Southern College men's tennis (3-3, 1-2 SSC) fell to Saint Leo University (3-0, 2-0 SSC) 4-3 on Tuesday at the Saint Leo Tennis Center. Florida Southern claimed the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights, but Saint Leo secured the match with four singles wins.
Florida Southern secured the doubles point with victories on courts two and three.
Mario Garoz and
Edoardo Melindo dominated at No. 3 doubles, defeating Eduardo Cohen and Shay Sarfati 6-1.
Bosko Boskovic and
Gabriel Jornert followed with a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles over Dylan Andrianaly and Filippo Caporali. The Lions duo of #3-ranked Kodai Kato and Jose David Segovia managed a win at No. 1 doubles, edging
George Russell and
Onur Turgut 7-6.
In singles, Eduardo Cohen of SLU gave his team an early singles point with a straight-sets victory over Turgut, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 3 singles. Jose David extended the Lions' lead with a 6-2, 6-3 win against
Matthew Hewitt at No. 2 singles. Florida Southern's Garoz put his team back in contention, securing a three-set victory over Dylan Andrianaly, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1 singles.
SLU responded by clinching the match with Mahit Mekala's three-set win over Boskovic at No. 5 singles, finishing 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Kodai Kato added another point for the home team, defeating
Marco Cinotti 6-7(6), 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. The Mocs'
Mario Antonio Morales closed the match on a positive note, winning 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 over Filippo Caporali at No. 6 singles.
Antonio Morales secured a victory at No. 6 singles, contributing to the team's overall performance. Garoz recorded a win at No. 1 singles and added a doubles victory at No. 3 with Melindo. Boskovic tallied a doubles win at No. 2 with Jornert.
