ORLANDO, Fla. — No. 14 Florida Southern College men's tennis (4-3) defeated Davenport University (3-5) by a 4-0 score on Monday at the USTA Campus. The Moccasins secured the victory by sweeping three singles matches and taking two of the three doubles matches to clinch the contest.
Florida Southern secured the doubles point with victories on courts three and one.
Mario Garoz and
Edoardo Melindo opened with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles against Jaden Bender and Daniel Calver. The Panthers responded as Reuben Bakker and Jan Stolin edged
Bosko Boskovic and
Gabriel Jornert 7-6(3) at No. 2 doubles. The decisive point came from
George Russell and
Onur Turgut, who clinched the doubles point for the Moccasins by defeating Adrian Constantin and Simone Pacciolla 7-6(7) on court one.
In singles, Florida Southern extended its lead as
Marco Cinotti delivered a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Bender at No. 4 singles.
Mario Antonio Morales added another point with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Bakker at No. 6 singles. Boskovic sealed the match for the Mocs with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Rudiger Dusselberg at No. 5 singles.
The remaining matches at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 singles were left unfinished, with Florida Southern having already clinched the team victory. Garoz led Stolin 7-5, 2-1 at No. 1 singles, while
Matthew Hewitt trailed Constantin 7-5, 3-1 at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Turgut was ahead of Calver 6-2, 3-2 when play was suspended.
