LAKELAND, Fla. — Florida Southern College baseball (5-11, 1-3 SSC) pulled off a thrilling 4-3 win over Florida Tech (8-4, 3-1 SSC) at Henley Field on Friday. The Moccasins rallied with a two-run ninth inning and walk-off by
Carson Brady, overcoming an initial three-run hole dug by the Panthers in the first inning.
The game started with Florida Southern trailing as Florida Tech jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Josh Davis doubled and scored on Alex Dominguez's double, followed by a two-run homer from Gabriel Roque, leaving the score at 3-0.
The Moccasins began their comeback in the fifth inning.
Eli Thurmond was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a throwing error after advancing to third on a fielder's choice by
Adrian Davis.
Ryan Jenkins then singled, and
Mikey Scott doubled to bring in another run, trimming the deficit to 3-2 after five innings.
In the ninth, FSC completed their comeback.
Will Burke pinch-hit and singled, with
TJ Eckert pinch-running and advancing to second on a groundout. Following an intentional walk to Scott,
Eric Harrison Jr. doubled, driving in Eckert. Brady then singled to score Scott, giving the Moccasins a 4-3 walk-off victory.Â
Scott shone with a run and an RBI, hitting a double and drawing a walk. Harrison added a double, an RBI, and two walks. On the mound,
Sachem Ramos pitched eight strong innings, striking out five and allowing five hits. After giving up three runs in the first, Ramos shut out the Panthers in the next seven innings of work.Â
Casey O'Dell sealed the win with a flawless inning, striking out two batters.
The Mocs will host Florida Tech again at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Henley Field in Lakeland, Florida, eager to build momentum on their home turf.
