LAKELAND, Fla. — Florida Southern College baseball (7-11, 3-3 SSC) had a thrilling doubleheader against Florida Tech (8-6, 3-3 SSC) at Henley Field, securing an 11-3 victory in the first game, followed by a sensational 12-11 comeback win in the second to secure a series sweep.
In the first game, the Moccasins showcased an impressive performance with a standout five-run third inning and a total of 17 hits. They took control early, with
Mikey Scott setting the tone in the first inning by singling to right, stealing second, and scoring on
Carson Brady's RBI single to center for a 1-0 lead. The third inning was a scoring frenzy, highlighted by
Ryan Jenkins launching a homer to left, which sparked a series of hits and a hit-by-pitch that loaded the bases.
Gavin Smith doubled, bringing in two runs, and
Cory Filley followed with a two-RBI single, giving the Mocs a 6-2 lead by the end of the inning.
As the game progressed,
Eric Harrison Jr. doubled and later scored on Smith's single, making it 7-2 in the fifth. Jenkins scored off Harrison Jr.'s single in the sixth, extending the lead to 8-2. Florida Southern kept the momentum in the seventh with a wild pitch allowing Smith to score, and Filley's groundout drove in another run for a 10-2 lead. Scott dazzled again in the eighth, scoring off Brady's single to secure an 11-2 lead. Florida Tech managed a solo homer by Gabe Roque in the ninth, but it wasn't enough, and the Mocs sealed the game with an 11-3 win.
In the second game, Florida Southern faced a fierce battle, rallying from a four-run deficit to win 12-11 with a remarkable five-run ninth inning. The Moccasins started strong in the third when Scott singled to the pitcher, setting the stage for Harrison Jr.'s three-run triple to left center, bringing in Scott, Jenkins, and
Brock Budacki. Brady's sacrifice fly leveled the score at 4-4. After Florida Tech added a run in the sixth, Filley responded with a solo homer, but the Panthers led 9-5 after six.
The seventh inning saw Scott launch a two-run homer, narrowing the gap to 10-7. Down by three entering the ninth, Florida Southern's bats came alive as Jenkins punched a single, and Scott delivered a game-changing grand slam, driving in Jenkins,
Brady Doorey, and
Amir Streeter to tie the game. Mocs continued the pressure with another bases-loaded scenario, capitalizing on a single by  Filley for the walk-off victory and series sweep.Â
Looking ahead, Florida Southern will face Roosevelt University at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, at Henley Field in Lakeland, Florida.
