LAKELAND, Fla. — Florida Southern College baseball (8-11, 3-3) claimed a commanding 15-1 victory over Roosevelt University (2-7) on Tuesday at Henley Field. The Moccasins collected 13 hits, including two home runs, to dominate the game.
In the second inning,
Cory Filley singled, and
Eli Thurmond hit a ground-rule double, setting up runners on second and third.
Josh Hines's sacrifice fly brought Filley home, and
Amir Streeter followed with a two-run homer, putting the Mocs ahead 3-0.
The momentum continued in the third inning when
Gavin Smith tripled and scored on a groundout by Filley, extending the lead to 4-0.
A pivotal fourth inning saw Florida Southern explode for seven runs. Streeter launched his second home run of the game, another two-run shot.
Ryan Jenkins doubled, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on an
Eric Harrison Jr. double. Additional runs came courtesy of a fielder's choice and a two-RBI single from Hines. The inning wrapped up with a wild pitch that allowed another runner to score, making it 11-0.
In the sixth inning, Harrison Kowalski singled and scored on a double by Adam Klaybor, putting the Lakers on the board. However, the Mocs answered with four more runs, including RBIs from a sacrifice fly and a groundout, sealing the game at 15-1.
Streeter shone brightly with two home runs, driving in five runs and crossing the plate twice. Hines made a big impact with three hits, four RBIs, and scored two runs. Thurmond chipped in with a double, a walk, and a run scored.Â
Jayce Rollins provided a solid start, pitching four innings without surrendering any earned runs and fanning five hitters, earning the win on a predetermined use of pitchers.
Christian Carew followed with a strong inning, striking out three despite issuing one walk.
Ethan Breslin took over in the sixth, giving up two hits and an earned run, but also struck out three.
Aidan Kelley and
Tanner Quick combined to close out the game, with Kelley striking out two in 2/3 of an inning, and Quick finishing with a strikeout in his 1/3 inning stint, despite a walk and a wild pitch.
Up next, Florida Southern will face Northwood University at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday, March 5, at Henley Field in Lakeland, Florida.
