LAKELAND, Fla. - The No. 3/5 Florida Southern men's golf team stands in second place after two rounds of play at the Matlock Collegiate Classic in Lakeland, Fla. The Mocs sit at 9-under, with Donte Groppuso tied for the field lead, shooting 10-under.
Groppuso leads the field after day one, tied with West Florida's Per Ekelund, shooting 10-under through the two rounds. The graduate student carded eight birdies in round one (finishing the round 6-under), and four birdies in round two. Groppuso's first round of 66 was a career-low.
Anthony Monteleone competed as an individual, shooting 4-under on the day. The freshman shot a 70 in both rounds and carded seven birdies through the two rounds.
Max Barile rounded out the under-par rounds for the Mocs, finishing tied-10th with a 2-under 140. He carded a total of 10 birdies in the two rounds, with six in round one.
Colton Swartz and Tyler Mistretta competed in the Moccasin lineup, finishing tied-20th and tied-23rd, respectively.
Freshman Chris Pollak made his collegiate debut in the Moccasin lineup. He and Corey Edgar, who competed as an individual, both finished tied-69th, with a two round score of 155 (11-over).
Jack VanderSchuur and Jaylen Abbas also competed as individuals, finishing tied-32nd and tied-44th, respectively.
No. 4 West Florida leads the field at 14-under, while individuals Ekelund (West Florida) and Donte Groppuso (Florida Southern) are tied for the first-place position.
