LAKELAND, Fla. — No. 23 Florida Southern College women's tennis (8-2) defeated No. 40 Tuskegee University (9-5) 4-0 on Friday at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center. The Mocs secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions and won three singles matches to clinch the match.
Florida Southern secured the doubles point with victories on courts two and three.
Emily Jennewein and
Ronja Scheuermann delivered a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles over Gabrielle Blanks and Ad Serena Pascaline.
Annika Berrendorf and
Jolie Miller followed with a 6-1 triumph at No. 3 doubles against Dayna Jackson and Asia McRae. The No. 1 doubles match featuring Florida Southern's
Kennedi Brown and
Josie Holderbach against Leiloni Payton and Ayawavi Vania Dotse was left unfinished with a score of 5-2.
In singles, the Mocs extended their lead with decisive performances. Brown claimed a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles against Taylor Ford. Berrendorf added another point with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Payton at No. 2 singles. #38 Holderbach clinched the match for Florida Southern with a 6-1, 6-0 result against Dotse at No. 1 singles.
Unfinished matches included No. 3 singles, where Miller led 6-2, 3-5 against Pascaline, and No. 4 singles, with
Diana Volkov leading 6-0, 5-1 against McRae. Additionally,
Elin Axler was ahead 2-0 in the first set against Griffin-Harrington at No. 6 singles when play was suspended.
