LAKELAND, Fla. — No. 23 Florida Southern College (8-3) fell to the No. 1 University of West Florida (11-4) 4-2 on Sunday at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center. The Moccasins secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, but managed only one singles win at No. 1.
Florida Southern secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. At No. 1 doubles,
Kennedi Brown and
Josie Holderbach defeated #23 Sandra Recuenco and Carlota Verdu from the Argonauts, 6-3.
Emily Jennewein and
Ronja Scheuermann clinched the point with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles over Guadalupe Martinez and All Mldorl Da Silva. The No. 3 doubles match was left unfinished, with Florida Southern's
Annika Berrendorf and
Jolie Miller leading 5-4.
In singles, Florida Southern's #38 Holderbach delivered a decisive 6-1, 6-2 victory over #6 Verdu at No. 1 singles, leveling the overall match score. However, the Argos responded with four consecutive singles wins to secure the victory. At No. 4 singles, #50 Martinez defeated Berrendorf 6-1, 6-1, and Alberte Jorgensen followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Miller at No. 5 singles.
West Florida continued their momentum when Da Silva claimed a 7-5, 6-1 victory against #56 Jennewein at No. 3 singles. The match concluded with #27 Recuenco's narrow 6-4, 7-5 win over Scheuermann at No. 2 singles. The No. 6 singles match between Kylle Kochs and
Diana Volkov was left unfinished, with Kochs leading 4-1 in the first set.
Looking ahead, the Moccasins will host Lynn at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center in Lakeland, Florida, on Thursday, March 19, at 6 p.m.
