#9 Mocs Beat #4 Warriors in Top 10 Matchup

FSC swept WSU 4-0 in the Saturday afternoon bout

LAKELAND, Fla. — No. 9 Florida Southern College men's tennis (11-3) defeated No. 4 Wayne State University (8-3) with a decisive 4-0 victory on Saturday at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center. The Mocs clinched the match by capturing the doubles point and winning singles matches at the No. 1, No. 5, and No. 6 positions.

Florida Southern secured the doubles point with victories on courts two and one. At No. 2 doubles, the pairing of #41 Bosko Boskovic and Gabriel Jornert earned a decisive 6-2 win over the Warriors' George Day and Thomas Mathys. The point was clinched at No. 1 doubles, where George Russell and Onur Turgut triumphed 6-4 against #11 Harry Forsyth and Luis Klaus. The match at No. 3 doubles, featuring Mario Garoz and Edoardo Melindo, was left unfinished with a score of 5-4 against the Warriors' Benjamin Hill and Sam Knowles.

In singles, Florida Southern extended its lead with three straight-set victories. At No. 5 singles, Boskovic defeated Forsyth 6-3, 6-3, followed by a win at No. 1 singles where #16 Garoz overcame Day 6-4, 6-4. The match concluded as Mario Antonio Morales secured a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Knowles at No. 6 singles.

The remaining singles matches were left unfinished. At No. 2 singles, #53 Klaus and Matthew Hewitt were tied, with Hewitt winning the second set 6-1. No. 3 singles saw Mathys ahead 6-2, 4-2 against Turgut, while Marco Cinotti and Hill were tied at one set each at No. 4 singles, with Cinotti taking the first set 6-2.

Morales recorded a win at No. 6 singles, contributing to his team's success. Boskovic posted victories in both singles and doubles, with a singles win at No. 5 and a doubles win at No. 2. Garoz collected a No. 1 singles victory, demonstrating his competitive edge. Additionally, Turgut and Russell tallied a win at No. 1 doubles, rounding out a strong performance for the team.
