Florida Southern Women's Tennis Secures Conference Win

LAKELAND, Fla. — No. 11 Florida Southern College women's tennis (9-3, 1-2 SSC) secured a 5-2 victory over No.14 Lynn University (7-5, 1-4 SSC) on Thursday at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center. The Moccasins clinched the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions and captured four of six singles matches to seal the win.
 
Florida Southern secured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, #42 Emily Jennewein and Ronja Scheuermann defeated the Fighting Knights' Lea Cakarevic and Kristen Younes, 6-1. Annika Berrendorf and Jolie Miller followed with a 6-2 victory over Garcia Del Rey Alva and Hailey Lizano at No. 3 doubles. Lynn picked up a win at No. 1 doubles as Carla Galmiche and Meadow Garcia overcame #49 Kennedi Brown and Josie Holderbach, 6-2.
 
In singles, the Mocs extended their lead with a win at No. 6 singles, where Diana Volkov dispatched Garcia Del Rey Alva, 6-0, 6-1. #20 Holderbach then added another point for Florida Southern by defeating Younes, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles. Lynn responded at No. 2 singles when Galmiche secured a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Scheuermann.
 
Berrendorf clinched the match for Florida Southern at No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Lizano. Garcia earned another point for the Fighting Knights at No. 3 singles, overcoming #55 Jennewein in a close contest, 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7). Finally, at No. 5 singles, Miller triumphed in a third-set tiebreak, defeating Cakarevic 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8).
 
Berrendorf recorded a win at No. 4 singles and added another victory in No. 3 doubles. Holderbach posted a win in No. 1 singles, despite a loss in No. 1 doubles. Miller tallied a win at No. 5 singles and contributed a doubles victory with Berrendorf at No. 3. Volkov finished with a win at No. 6 singles, rounding out the team's strong singles performance.
 
Up next for the Moccasins is a home match against Emporia State University on Friday, March 20, at 2 p.m. at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center in Lakeland, Florida.
