ORLANDO, Fla. - The Sunshine State Conference Players of the Week have been announced with Florida Southern College's
Jacob Czyz named Men's Lacrosse Specialist of the Week,
Kolby Cohen named Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week and
Max Barile named Men's Golfer Player of the Week. This is the 10th weekly award for Czyz in his career, first of Cohen's career, and the second award for Barile in his career.
Czyz had another outstanding week at the faceoff for Florida Southern. He began the week winning 23-of-24 (.958) faceoffs and scoring a goal versus Adams State as the Moccasins won 20-7. He also set a new program record with 19 groundballs in the contest. He then won 19-of-22 (.864) versus No. 11 Colorado Mesa as the Moccasins nearly upset the Mavericks in overtime. He scooped up 18 groundballs in the loss which is tied for second all-time at FSC in a single game. He also scored a goal versus CMU to help the offensive effort. For the week, he went 42-of-46 (.913) with 37 groundballs (18.5 gb/g). He currently leads all of NCAA Division II with 12.86 groundballs per game and is sixth in face off winning percentage (.711).
Cohen has been a force for the No. 2 Moccasins on both sides of the ball. In the Moccansins' two victories over No. 15 Regis, and Lander, Cohen collected 16 draw controls, caused three turnovers, and picked up two groundballs. She also led the charge on offense with a team-leading seven points on the week (3 goals, 4 assists). Cohen set a new career-high in draw controls against Regis, grabbing 12.
With a career-low round of 65, Barile claimed the individual title and the No. 4 Florida Southern men's golf team finished fourth in the Las Vegas Desert Classic with a three-round score of 862 at the Boulder Creek Golf Course in Boulder City, Nev. Barile led the Mocs with a first-place finish, shooting a 14-under 202, and a 7-under 65 on the final day, both career lows. He carded eight birdies in the third round, with five on the front nine. This was the first individual win of his career. In the tournament, he carded 17 birdies and two eagles, with three under-par rounds (68-69-65). Following the individual title, Barile has moved up to #1 in the Scoreboard by Clippd rankings.
The #4 Mocs finished ahead of #11 North Georgia, #13 DBU, #43 UT Tyler, #20 CSU East Bay, #18 West Texas A&M, #33 Missouri St. Louis, #50 CSU San Bernadino, #7 St. Mary's (TX), #31 Colorado Christian, #10 Colorado St-Pueblo, and #16 Central Missouri.
