LAKELAND, Fla. — Florida Southern College baseball (18-15, 8-7 SSC) secured a decisive 17–5 victory over Saint Leo University (19-16, 7-12 SSC) on Friday night at Henley Field. The Moccasins amassed 20 hits, including six doubles and two home runs, to dominate the contest.
The Mocs and the Lions each scored in the first inning.
Ryan Jenkins tripled down the right field line and later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Mikey Scott, tying the game at 1–1 after one inning.
In the second inning, Florida Southern took the lead. A walk and two hit-by-pitches loaded the bases, allowing
Will Burke to score on another hit-by-pitch. Scott added a sacrifice fly, and
Eric Harrison Jr. doubled to bring in another run, putting the Mocs ahead 4–1 through two innings.
SLU narrowed the gap in the third inning with two runs, including an RBI double by Ryan Crivello, making it 4–3. Florida Southern answered in the fourth inning with a ground-rule double by Scott and a two-run homer by
Carson Brady, extending its lead to 7–3.
The Moccasins continued to build on their lead in the fifth inning.
Brock Budacki homered to right field, and Scott singled in another run, increasing the lead to 9–3 through five innings.
The Lions responded in the sixth with a two-run homer by Camdin Jansen, but Florida Southern added a run in the bottom half with a sacrifice fly from Budacki, keeping the lead at 10–5 through six innings.
Neither team scored in the seventh inning, but Florida Southern delivered a decisive blow in the eighth inning. The inning included multiple RBI hits, highlighted by Jenkins' two-RBI double and Scott's RBI single. The Moccasins scored seven runs, pushing the lead to 17–5 after eight innings.
The game concluded with a scoreless ninth inning, as Florida Southern secured a commanding 17–5 victory over SLU.
Brady recorded a strong performance with four hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs. Scott added three hits and five RBIs, contributing significantly to the team's scoring. Harrison Jr. contributed four hits and drove in two runs. Budacki scored two runs and added a home run, driving in three runs.
Sachem Ramos pitched six innings to get his fourth win of the season.
Casey O'Dell contributed two innings of relief, giving up just one hit.
Ethan Breslin closed with one inning, striking out one.
The Mocs will host the Lions for a Saturday doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday, April 11, beginning at 1 p.m. at Henley Field in Lakeland, Florida.
