MIAMI SHORES, Fla. — No. 11 Florida Southern College men's tennis (15-5) was defeated by No. 2 Barry University (17-0) with a final score of 0-7 on Saturday at the Buccaneer Tennis Center. Florida Southern secured a victory at the No. 3 doubles position, but Barry won all singles matches.
Florida Southern dropped the doubles point to Barry after losing matches at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. BarryU secured a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles, with No. 48 Thomas Machado and Adam Lynch defeating
Bosko Boskovic and
Gabriel Jornert. At No. 1 doubles, No. 22 Riccardo Trione and Simone Cavalleri sealed the point for the Bucs with a 6-3 win over No. 17
George Russell and
Onur Turgut. The Moccasins' No. 30
Mario Garoz and
Edoardo Melindo managed a 7-6(3) victory at No. 3 doubles, but it was not enough to claim the doubles point.
In singles play, Barry continued its dominance. At No. 4 singles, No. 28 Adam Lynch defeated
Marco Cinotti 6-2, 6-2, putting BarryU up 2-0. The Buccaneers extended their lead with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles, as Cooper Dillon overcame Melindo. BarryU's Thomas Machado then claimed a 6-2, 6-3 victory over
Onur Turgut at No. 3 singles, clinching the match for the Buccaneers with a 4-0 overall score.
The remaining singles matches also went in BarryU's favor. At No. 2 singles, No. 1 Yan Kodjoed secured a narrow victory over
Matthew Hewitt, 6-1, 7-6(6). No. 21 Riccardo Trione defeated No. 6 Garoz at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 7-5, and Antonin Chapuis closed out the day with a 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 win over No. 51
Mario Antonio Morales at No. 5 singles. The Buccaneers completed a 7-0 sweep against the Mocs.
