LAKELAND, Fla. — Florida Southern College (9-25, 3-15 SSC) secured a decisive 5–0 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic (13-27, 3-16 SSC) at Chris Bellotto Field on Friday.
Des Aitken pitched a full game in the circle, allowing just four hits and one walk over seven shutout innings.
Florida Southern defeated the Sailfish with a final score of 5–0.
In the first inning, Florida Southern took an early lead when
Gabby Young doubled and later scored on a single by
Kate Mikle. The score was 1–0 after the first inning.
The third inning saw
Emma Lucchesi reach third on a fielding error and subsequently score on a sacrifice fly by
Hannah Lewis, extending the Moccasins' lead to 2–0.
In the fifth inning, Florida Southern capitalized on a throwing error and timely hits.
Brianna Shelley singled and advanced to third on a fielder's choice. Lucchesi and Young both scored on a double by Lewis, bringing the score to 4–0.
Florida Southern added another run in the sixth inning.
Keira Morris walked and scored on a single by Shelley, increasing the lead to 5–0.
The game concluded with FSC maintaining their shutout, ending with a final score of 5–0.
Young scored two runs and added a double, contributing significantly to the team's offensive effort. Lewis recorded three RBIs and hit a double, providing critical support at the plate. Lucchesi tallied two runs and stole two bases, showcasing her speed on the field.

Aitken delivered a standout performance for the Mocs, pitching a complete game shutout over 7 innings. Aitken allowed just four hits and one walk, while striking out one batter and hitting another. Utilizing 84 pitches, with 59 of those for strikes, Aitken secured the victory, improving to a 5–9 record for the season. This outing marked a significant achievement with a complete game victory, showcasing efficiency and control on the mound.
For the Sailfish, Kaitlyn Campbell made a notable impact with her performance, achieving two hits and a double, while successfully stealing a base. Larken Maseda contributed with a hit and was hit by a pitch, while also recording a caught stealing in her defensive role as catcher. Rylee Little pitched four innings, allowing four hits and one earned run, striking out one batter, and throwing 72 pitches with 41 strikes.
Florida Southern will face the Sailfish again in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 18, at Chris Bellotto Field in Lakeland, Florida. Game one is set for 1 p.m.
