FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — No. 8 Florida Southern College fell to No. 2 Embry-Riddle on Saturday at the Rolling Hills Tennis Complex in the SSC Championships Semifinals. The Moccasins secured a win in the No. 1 doubles match but were unable to claim any singles victories.
Florida Southern fell short in the doubles competition against the Eagles, who claimed the doubles point. No.20
Josie Holderbach and
Kennedi Brown secured a commanding 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles over Amelie Gindl and Laura Cuesta Bret. However, the Eagles responded with wins at No. 3 doubles, where Ashley Moinard and Mariana Cabrera defeated
Annika Berrendorf and
Jolie Miller 6-2, and at No. 2 doubles, where Benedetta Sensi and Fernandez Junquera triumphed 6-4 over
Ronja Scheuermann and
Emily Jennewein.
In singles play, Embry-Riddle extended its lead with victories in three completed matches. At No. 3 singles, Benedetta Sensi defeated Jennewein 6-2, 6-3. Berrendorf was overcome by Fernandez Junquera, who secured a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.
Diana Volkov faced Franz Kremerskothen at No. 6 singles, resulting in a 6-1, 6-2 defeat for Florida Southern.
The matches at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 5 singles remained unfinished. No.14 Holderbach was leading Amelie Gindl 7-5, 1-2, while Scheuermann trailed Laura Cuesta Bret 4-6, 2-3, and Miller was down 3-6, 5-4 against Ashley Moinard when the match was concluded. The final dual score stood at 4-0 in favor of the Eagles.
The Mocs continue action tomorrow with a match against the loser of the No.1 Bucs in Barry and No.5 Sharks in Nova Southeastern to see who finishes third in the SSC Championship.Â
