FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — No. 8 Florida Southern College lost to No. 5 Nova Southeastern University 4-0 on Sunday at the Rolling Hills Tennis Complex as the Sharks earn third in the SSC Championship.
Nova Southeastern secured the doubles point with victories on two courts. At No. 1 doubles, Kristyna Hranacova and Katja Markus defeated No. 20
Josie Holderbach and
Kennedi Brown, 6-3. The point was clinched when Jana Boegner and Priscila Janikian edged
Annika Berrendorf and
Jolie Miller, 7-5, at No. 3 doubles. The match at No. 2 doubles, featuring No. 47
Ronja Scheuermann and
Emily Jennewein against Chloe Henderson and Noemie Dadoun, was left unfinished with a score of 6-5 in favor of the Sharks.
In singles play, Nova Southeastern extended its lead with a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles, where No.1 Kristyna Hranacova overcame No.14 Holderbach, 6-2, 6-1. Brown fell to Amina Sagadiyeva at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-3, further advancing the Sharks' position. At No. 5 singles, Jana Boegner completed a 6-1, 6-3 win against
Miller, sealing the overall match victory for the Sharks.
The remaining singles matches were left unfinished. Scheuermann led Katja Markus 6-4, 5-4 at No. 2 singles, while No.44 Jennewein trailed No. 27 Chloe Henderson 6-4, 3-3 at No. 3 singles. Berrendorf was behind Noemie Dadoun 6-4, 4-3 at No. 4 singles when play concluded. The final score was 4-0 in favor of the Sharks.
Scheuermann recorded a tie at No. 2 singles, maintaining a competitive stance in her match. Jennewein also ended with a tie at No. 3 singles, demonstrating resilience throughout the contest. Berrendorf finished with a tie at No. 4 singles, contributing to the team's efforts in a close match scenario.
Florida Southern now awaits their fate for regionals as the Mocs were listed in the alphabetical top 10 regional ranking released last week. Regional rounds for the NCAA Championships will be played at non-predetermined sites between May 8th and 12th. Finals will be from May 19-23. Both championships will be held at Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Surprise, Arizona. The championships are hosted by the Pacific West Conference and City of Surprise. The NCAA will announce postseason selections on Tuesday, May 5th.
