BOCA RATON, Fla. — No. 10 Florida Southern College men's tennis (17-6) fell to No. 24 Lynn University (12-9) 4-3 on Thursday at the Perper Tennis Complex in the SSC Quarterfinal Match. The Moccasins won the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, but the Fighting Knights claimed four singles matches to secure the win.
Florida Southern secured the doubles point with decisive victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Bosko Boskovic and
Gabriel Jornert clinched a 6-2 win over the Fighting Knights' Victor Alves and Santino Morel at No. 2 doubles. This was followed by
Mario Garoz and
Edoardo Melindo's 6-3 victory against Daniel Azar and Lennart Ostheimer at No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 doubles match featuring
George Russell and
Onur Turgut against Lynn's 15th ranked Davide Cortimiglia and Louay Makke was left unfinished with a score of 4-3 in favor of the Moccasins.
In singles play, the Fighting Knights' Victor Alves won in straight sets at No. 2 singles, defeating
Matthew Hewitt 6-3, 6-2. Louay Makke, ranked No. 21, extended their lead with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Florida Southern's 9th-ranked Garoz at No. 1 singles.
Mario Antonio Morales, ranked No. 65, brought the Moccasins back with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Santino Morel at No. 5 singles, leveling the dual score at 2-2.
However, the Fighting Knights clinched the match with wins in the remaining singles contests. Davide Cortimiglia defeated Boskovic 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6 singles, and Lennart Ostheimer fell to
Marco Cinotti in a three-set battle at No. 4 singles, 6-7, 6-2, 6-0. Aymen Alimoussa, ranked No. 59, sealed Lynn's victory with a win at No. 3 singles, overcoming Turgut 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
The Mocs will await their postseason fate with the NCAA selection show on Monday, May 4, at 8:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
