Men's Golf Punches Its Ticket to NCAA National Championship

Florida Southern Finishes Fifth at NCAA South/Southeast Regional to Advance to the 2026 National Championship

VALDOSTA, Ga. - The No. 4 Florida Southern men's golf team finished fifth at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional at the Valdosta Country Club, punching their ticket to the 2026 NCAA DII Men's Golf National Championship in Las Vegas. The Mocs finished the tournament with an 11-under 853 through three rounds. 

Tyler Mistretta and Max Barile once again led the Mocs, tying for the team lead both with a top-10 finish at tied-7th. Barile tied his first round score with a 4-under 68. He opened the day with a par and four straight birdies en route to a dominant round. The senior carded seven birdies in the final round to move back up the leaderboard. Mistretta shot a 75, carding one birdie in the round. 

Colton Swartz shot his best round of the tournament to close with a 2-under 70. Swartz carded four birdies in the final round, moving himself to 2-under and tied-18th. 

Anthony Monteleone finished his first NCAA postseason appearance tied-44th, shooting 3-over. He finished the final round 1-over, carding two birdies. 

Donte Groppuso rounds out the Moccasin lineup tied-79th. He posted a 78 in the final round, for a three-round score of 227. 

Nova Southeastern was named the regional champion, posting a three-round score of 840 (-24). Cooper Tendick of West Florida remained in the lead, being crowned the regional champion with a score of 201 (-15). 

Florida Southern was one of seven teams to make the cut to the NCAA Championship, joining regional champion Nova Southeastern, regional runner-up West Florida, Lee, Georgia Southwestern, Columbus State, and Wingate. Octavio Laurent of USC Beaufort and Gabriel Hull of Emmanuel are the two individuals advancing to the National Championship.

UP NEXT

The Moccasins will make their 42nd National Championship Tournament appearance, and in back-to-back years, the Mocs will compete on the National Stage. The tournament takes place May 18-22 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev. The finals will be hosted by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
