AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The 2026 Polk County All Sports Awards have been announced, with Florida Southern College earning the Female Collegiate Athlete of the Year and both the Male and Female Collegiate Team of the Year awards.
Charlie Laye of women's lacrosse was selected as the Female Collegiate Athlete of the Year, with the lacrosse team named co-champions of the Female Collegiate Team of the Year, joining Warner Flag Football as national champions. Men's golf earned the Male Collegiate Team of the Year award.
Laye was a standout of the Florida Southern defense, leading the team to the program's second NCAA DII National Championship last month. Laye led the team with 44 groundballs, adding 32 caused turnovers and 18 draw controls. She was an All-SSC First Team, USA Lacrosse Second Team All-America, and IWLCA First Team All-America selection, tallying a pair of goals this season and is credited with an assist. Prior to the NCAA semifinal game, Laye was recognized as the NCAA Elite Scholar-Athlete for Women's Lacrosse, given to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships. She is a four-time Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient and is a two-time First Team All-SSC selection. She was named IWLCA All-South Region Second Team last season and moved up to the First Team in 2026. A 2026 CSC Academic All-District selection, she also earned IWLCA Academic Honor Squad last season.
The women's lacrosse team was named the Female Collegiate Team of the Year, with Warner Flag Football, as two programs from the Polk County area won national championships. The Mocs secured a 9-7 victory over No. 8 Maryville to claim the program's second NCAA Division II National Championship and its first since 2016. Florida Southern's championship run featured both the Sunshine State Conference Tournament and regular-season titles, going a perfect 7-0 in conference play. The Mocs also named five as IWLCA All-Americans, three as USA Lacrosse Magazine All-Americans, six as IWLCA All-Region Selections, and nine All-SSC selections, including head coach

After taking home the program's 14th national championship, FSC men's golf was selected as the Polk County Male Collegiate Team of the Year. Beating Wingate 3-2 in the championship match play, the Mocs capped the year as national champions, previously being the SSC Tournament Champions for a second year in a row. Head coach
